TSS Vice-Chair/Chair Elect Candidates Needed!

We are in urgent need of a candidate for Vice-Chair/Chair Elect. (Our sole volunteer to date has had to unfortunately withdraw his name from consideration.)

Would you please consider serving your section in this way? While it is a three-year term, the amount of work is not overwhelming. I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have about the position.

Many thanks!

Annual Conference News

From the MINNESOTA LIBRARY ASSOCIATION...

The Annual Conference, November 19-21, in Bloomington, MN, is just around the corner. You can find a draft schedule of programs on the MLA website, as well as the Annual Conference registration form (PDF). The online form will be active in the next few weeks. Look for an announcement soon.

If you haven't renewed your membership for 2008, take the time now to do so. The Individual Membership Application can be found on the homepage.

And a special invitation to potential MLA Members you may know...

New Members only! Join MLA by paying your 2009 membership fees and MLA will welcome you to the 2008 Annual Conference at member registration rates. To take advantage of this limited, one-time offer, new members must pay for both 2009 membership and 2008 conference registration fees. This offer is extended by the MLA Board because of the late date of this year's annual conference, to promote attendance following the PLA conference that was held in Minneapolis this year, and to encourage membership in the association.

I hope you are all enjoying a great Minnesota summer!

I am sending out this call for volunteers to serve on the TSS Nomination Committee for the upcoming election. This year we will be electing a new Vice Chair/Chair-Elect, and Secretary (1 year term since the position is still unfilled from last year). Please be thinking if you could serve your section in this way, or if you know someone who might be interested!

Please notify me by Friday, 22 August 2008 if you are interested in serving on the Nomination Committee.

Many thanks, and I hope to hear from you soon!

MLA 2008 - Call For Program Proposals

Greetings Colleagues:

As the Technical Services section representative to the MLA Conference Program Planning Committee, I encourage you to submit program proposals for the 2008 Annual Conference which will be held November 19-21 at the Sheraton in Bloomington, MN. The theme of the 2008 Conference is: To Explore, To Evolve, To Excel…Together.

We asked for your program ideas at the 2007 Technical Services Meeting for the 2008 Conference, and I’ve listed them below for your review:
  • Workflow
  • RDA/FRBR Update
  • Digital Initiatives – Basics (how to set up a project, etc).
Even if you do not submit a session proposal, I welcome your suggestions for topics and/or speakers!

To submit a session proposal, please complete the Session Proposal Form with as much info as possible and

(1) submit it to sessionproposal@mnlibraryassociation.org by March 12 AND

(2) send a copy to me (ring0089@umn.edu) so I’m aware of what has been submitted and can advocate for our Technical Services programs at the Conference Planning Committee meetings. Although the final deadline is April 11, session proposals submitted by March 12 will be discussed at our March 14 meeting.

Thank you,

Sara Ring
